Home access is provided to Alabama citizens through local public libraries. We encourage each person to register for an individual card in the Reference Department. There is no charge for this service. These resources may be accessed from your home, office, or any other location with a computer that has access to the Internet.

The EDWIN CONDIE GODBOLD LOCAL HISTORY ROOM offers a collection of local and statewide historical and genealogical materials.  Special thanks to the Godbold family for their continuing support of the library. The Reference staff of the library receives many requests each month for general information about its collections and services, as well as, specific queries for information found in its archival holdings. All requests are answered in the order they are received.

The Edwin Condie Godbold Local History Room houses an outstanding collection of historical and genealogical materials with its focus on Selma and Dallas County, Alabama. The collection includes histories, genealogies, periodicals, census records, vertical files, maps, and photographs. The materials in this collection are for reference use only and may not be borrowed. The collection is open for public use during regular library hours free of charge.

Our Local History and Genealogy Librarian is available to assist you with your research on Wednesdays form 9am to 5pm. Assistance is available at other times by appointment only. Please call the librarian at 334-874-1722 on Wednesdays at least one week in advance of your visit to assure staff availability.

Although we are happy to assist you in your research, we are not staffed to perform genealogical research for you. Concise, brief requests by mail or email (info@selmalibrary.org) will be answered as staff time permits. We are not able to take genealogical requests by telephone.
