The Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources.  It is primarily a group of online databases that contain magazine articles, newspaper articles, encyclopedias, and other reference sources for research. Home access is provided to Alabama citizens through local public libraries. We encourage each person to register for an individual card in the Reference Department. There is no charge for this service. These resources may be accessed from your home, office, or any other location with a computer that has access to the Internet.

The EDWIN CONDIE GODBOLD LOCAL HISTORY ROOM houses an outstanding collection of historical and genealogical materials focusing on Selma and Dallas County, Alabama. The collection includes histories, genealogies, periodicals, census records, vertical files, maps and photographs. The materials in this collection are for reference use only and may not be borrowed. The Godbold Collection is open for public use during regular library hours free of charge. Our special thanks to the Godbold family for their continuing support of our library.

Although we are glad to assist with your research, we are not able to do historical or genealogical research for you. Concise, brief, written requests by fax or mail (printed clearly) on the Genealogy Request Form, or email (based on the guidelines of the Genealogy Request Form) will be answered in the order in which they are received and staff time permits. The attached Genealogy Request Form (Microsoft Word format) is for your convenience and may be submitted by fax or postal mail. Email requests may be sent to genealogy@selmalibrary.org. We do not take requests by phone. A specific date (mm/dd/yyyy) must be given to request obituaries and other newspaper articles.

The Selma Dallas County Public Library is a fully accessible facility. If you require assistance to utilize any Library service or program, help is available from any librarian.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
